A general is sent to assess the ongoing war in Afghanistan and believes more troops are needed, but faces frustration and lack of communication with the President, eventually leaking his assessment to the media and organizing interviews, leading to a surge of troops but angering the general, who travels to Paris to negotiate for additional troops and is warned not to anger the President further, resulting in his eventual firing and decision to take a civilian consultant job instead, while a journalist reflects on his negative article in hopes of ending the war. War Machine is written by Michael Hastings, David Michôd and David Mich D and it is directed by David Michôd and David Mich D. Netflix acquired the distribution rights for the movie. The movie veers from the broad doomsday satire of the Dr. Strangelove variety to a more subtle portrait of institutional failure, and doesnt always succeed at modulating its tones, but its nevertheless a searing critique. ( Read More )
