A young woman saves Maxim de Winter from contemplating suicide, they eventually marry and move to his grand mansion where his deceased first wife is still remembered by the housekeeper who tries to manipulate the new Mrs. de Winter into taking her own life, but everything changes when Rebeccas body is discovered and Maxim confesses to killing her in self-defense. Rebecca is a 1940 American English-language Drama Mystery movie starring Joan Fontaine, Laurence Olivier, Judith Anderson, George Sanders, Reginald Denny, Gladys Cooper and Jeanette Noeson. The movie is inspired from Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Selznick International Pictures was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) David O. Selznick. The movie is directed by Alfred Hitchcock. United Artists acquired the distribution rights for the film. Rebecca was released on 12th April 1940 and takes a screen time of 130 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released.
