Dangal

Dangal is a sports-based film directed by Nitesh and written by Piyush Gupta, Shreyas Jain, Nikhil Mehrotra, and Tiwari. The daughters of a former wrestler who failed to win a gold medal in the commonwealth games train them so that they can fulfill his dream. The daughters make their father’s dream come true even though under a lot of social pressure. It stars Aamir Khan as the protagonists along with Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, and Aparshakti Khurana in supporting roles. Aamir Khan increased his body weight by 28 kgs for the father character and within 20 days reduced about 25 kgs for the younger wrestler role. The movie was based on the true-life events in Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained Dangal for 6 girls, 2 were his brother’s daughters and four were his own. Notably, all of them have won medals in competitions. It was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan and production work were taken care of by Aamir Khan Production. The Walt Disney Pictures distributed the film. The cinematography was done by Setu and editing by Ballu Saluja. Pritam Chakraborty composed the music for the film. At the 2017 Filmfare Awards, it won 3 awards including Best Actor (Aamir Khan), Best Film and Best Director. The film was released on 21 December 2016 in the United States and on 23 December 2016 in India. Made on a budget of ₹ 70 crores it collected ₹ 2100 crores. It has a running time of 161 minutes.
